    TREE/SHRUB

Lemon Eucalyptus, aka Lemon-scented Gum, is a highly fragrant tree that has green, lance-shaped leaves and a smooth, grey bark. It has been popularised in recent years due to the highly effective insect repellent qualities of its refined extract, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (OLE). Besides this utility, it also makes a lovely ornamental. It can be grown as an annual in the garden or in containers as it is frost-tender and best moved indoors over winter. This fast growing, deer resistant tree can reach 1.8-2.4m (6-8') in its first season--in its natural environment in Australia, these trees can grow 12-30m (40-100') tall at full maturity!

Medium-green, 2–7", sword-shaped leaves that produce a strong citronella fragrance. Leaf and stem tips turn a lovely red color in late summer/fall. Less durable foliage than standard eucalyptus.

Here in Coastal BC, growth is slower and the plant is frost tender in its first few years. If planting in direct ground we recommend you grow it in a container for first couple of years then transplant. It should be planted in an areas that does not have other plants/trees close by as it will take a lot of the moisture and nutrition from its surrounding area.

    Plant 24-36" apart in ground.

Our best recommendation is to grow it in a large container and prune annually.

    Can be grown indoors.
