Fresh Ginger Plants
4" Specialty Pot
ANNUAL
These are the same plants we use to grow our popular fresh ginger. They have been lovingly grown for 5 months already! Fresh ginger needs a very warm spot to grow with wind protection. The rhizomes spread horizontally so you can plant in a container but one 4" plant needs at least 12" space. A Rubbermaid tub is a good alternative. Make sure your container has drainage.
Grow in light, rich organic soil. Ginger like even watering but err on the drier side.
Plant outside once temperatures are consistently over 9 degrees at night.
To harvest, gently pull rhizomes out of the ground (we use a pitch fork). Cut off roots. The rhizome is edible and you can use the greens to infuse dishes as you would with lemongrass.
With proper care you should yield a plant weighing about 1/2 pound.
WHY WE GROW IT:
Because our customers love it!
