    Heirloom variety. An African-type with extra large, fully double blooms in four shades from pale yellow to deep orange. Sturdy plants reach a height of 24-30 inches. The African is the tallest of the Marigolds. A cheerful plant suitable for beds or mass plantings.  Many gardeners plant marigolds in vegetable gardens as they are known to emit an aroma that deters pests of all types.


    Plant in full sun. Will grow well in poor soil. Space 12-18 inches apart. Deadhead regularly.


    Marigolds are excellent companion plants that deter pests like nematodes, whiteflies, and tomato hornworms due to their strong scent and chemical compounds. They pair best with tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, basil, and broccoli in full sun. They thrive in well-drained soil, often acting as a protective border for veggie gardens.
