Food Is Thy Medicine

My mom is in the hospital in Victoria this week. She is elderly, has cognitive challenges, and recently developed sciatica, which I am told is very painful.
Spending many hours at her side as she lies in a hallway (no rooms available, as many are waiting to be admitted into long-term care), I am struck by how much we all want the best possible quality of life as we age.
We need to move our bodies every day, to the best of our ability. My daughter, who is a physiotherapist, reminded her that she needs to move all her muscles to ensure they don’t weaken.
We need to keep our minds active.
And we need to eat well.
One of the best ways to do this is to eat more vegetables—locally grown, nutrient-dense produce grown without chemicals.
And this is why what we grow here on the farm matters so much to us.
Farmer Don and I hope that the upcoming changes to the bylaws in the CVRD will allow us, and the other local farms you love, to continue to thrive in our agricultural community here in the Cowichan Valley.

We often have salad for dinner — it helps us sleep better
We’ve been thinking about sharing a few simple recipes using what we grow here on the farm—would that be helpful to you? Let us know!
Would you like us to share trusted plant-based recipes?
Yes I would love that!
Not right now
If you’re planning your garden this year, we’ll be sharing more details about our upcoming plant sale soon.
See you at the farm,
Farmer Tracey 👩🌾
